VPIsystems Deploys at Bell Canada

VPItransportMakerTM Goes Live at Canada's Largest Communications Company

Holmdel, New Jersey (January 23, 2006) - VPIsystems, developer of decision support software used for planning and optimizing the capacity of communication networks, today announced the successful deployment of its OnePlanTM network resource planning system at Bell Canada.

The system is a fully-integrated component of Bell Canada's Network Inventory Management solution, providing advanced planning and optimization capabilities for their multi-vendor optical transport ring and mesh networks.

"We are especially pleased to see our planning system integrated into Bell's next-generation Inventory Management infrastructure," stated Hank Firey, President and CEO of VPIsystems. "This is proof to the market that there is a scalable solution to the challenges carriers face in planning the infrastructure for their next generation networks."

The Bell Canada deployment includes unique new approaches that radically transform planning for current and next generation networks. Instead of using separate planning tools and segmented data, often inconsistent and unmatched to the current network, VPIsystems' "One Network, One Plan" approach utilizes:

  • An open relational planning database that provides the entire user community with a single, centralized network modeling and planning environment
  • Navigation facilities that allow users to dynamically segment the planning database to match the scope of their respective planning studies, but still maintain one enterprise-wide plan
  • Automatic synchronization of the planning database to Bell Canada's reference network inventory management databases to ensure evergreen data integrity

The solution implemented at Bell Canada includes the VPItransportMakerTM, a module of the One Plan system, which provides planning capabilities for new optical mesh technologies and network resiliency measure. The module models ring and mesh networks, simulating traffic moving through the backbone network and providing "what if" analyses and network optimization algorithms, while incorporating diversity and other QoS requirements. This optimization will enable our customers to minimize the amount of new equipment necessary, thereby providing significant operational and capital savings, while reducing planning cycle times.
