OnePlan

OnePlan Overview

With the introduction of new network technologies such as Metro Ethernet, IP, VoIP, IMS and Optical Mesh, as well as new triple and quad play services, communications service providers (CSPs) must invest heavily in network and service infrastructure. Designed to help manage the uncertainties and risks associated with these investments, OnePlan is a modern network planning system that:

  • Designs and dimensions a network across all layers (access, metro and core) and all technologies, including IP-based and legacy technologies
  • Acts as a unifying source to reference the network across the business
  • Streamlines processes and procedures associated with capacity and network planning
  • Utilizes network investments in the most cost-effective manner

With OnePlan, CSPs have a single, cross-domain (geography, technology, discipline and network domain) network planning system across all network layers—making OnePlan the system for any carrier planning a next generation IP-enabled network.

OnePlan provides specific and quantitative answers to the decision-making processes associated with network planning and resource management. The diagram below illustrates how OnePlan collects information from various organizations and uses this information to communicate network infrastructure details like network capacity, network designs and equipment forecasts throughout the organization.

OnePlan captures network information across all layers and stores this information in a single repository—the OnePlan server, which provides a platform for OnePlan to act as the common network planning application connecting multiple teams involved in viewing, designing and planning the network. The system also automates all processes and procedures associated with network planning and management. In short, OnePlan modernizes a CSP's network infrastructure to accommodate new services and reach out to new customers. At the same time, OnePlan cuts capital and operational expenditures for CSPs competing in the next generation environment.

Optional Components for OnePlan

Through its modular design, OnePlan provides a scalable solution that can range from a single PC supporting one planning client for a specific network layer, up to a high-availability system spanning multiple network layers and automating all network planning, engineering and decommissioning activities.
