OnePlan Access for FTTxTM

Provides geo-market forecasting, FTTx access network design for outside plant, and economic analysis functionality

OnePlan Access for FTTx plans outside plant FTTx networks and business cases for new services by:

  • Capturing sophisticated market forecasts
  • Determining the best locations for fiber splitters, MSANs or DSLAMS
  • Dimensioning duct and conduit capacities
  • Providing detailed economic analysis based on forecasts and infrastructure investments
  • Visualizing geographic data such as area maps, customer locations and network layout

By estimating the service demand, OnePlan Access provides valuable input to the other OnePlan network planning and design modules.

Key Features

Capturing Sophisticated Market Forecasts:
Geo-marketing aspects such as service definitions and customer demand mapping are defined using an intuitive, easy to use GUI. Using this feature of OnePlan Access for FTTx, communications service providers (CSPs) can:

  • Define and characterize telecommunication services such as service type, traffic, number of interfaces, usage and revenue
  • Define customer classes (e.g. residential, small business, large corporation) and corresponding service mixes
  • Project customer density information for specific regions
  • Predict forecast evolution curves on service pricings, traffic consumption, and/or network infrastructure costs

Determining Best Equipment Locations for FTTx Networks:
OnePlan Access for FTTx simplifies network planning, access technology selection and the architecture modeling process by modeling PON and non-PON technologies as chains of network elements, connecting links and required infrastructures. Both centralized and distributed architectures are supported. Optimization and clustering algorithms are then used to synthesize networks and generate preferred positions for network nodes, taking into account the demands and new infrastructure and serving all customers with the desired mixture of services at minimum cost and maximum capacity utilization and physical manhole locations.

Dimensioning Duct and Conduit Capacities:
OnePlan Access for FTTx will determine if ducts and conduits have sufficient capacity for projected fiber growth using actual ducts and conduit path information.  This can be done for the entire wirecenter over multiple time intervals to achieve the most efficient cost implementation.

Providing Detailed Economic Analysis:
Business analysis such as techno-economic assessments and comparisons are performed using the OnePlan Access for FTTx Economics feature. CSPs can compute costs of components and network costs (from investment to maintenance) for all years considered in the project and directly visualize this data on maps or within spreadsheets. Users can also compare and contrast several scenarios and projects based on economic metrics such as revenue, costs, cash flows, Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).

Visualizing Geographic Data:
In support of the three processes discussed above, OnePlan Access for FTTx also includes an embedded geospatial information system (GIS) to handle geographical aspects such as area maps, customer locations and network layout. Using either the ESRI MapObjects® or MapInfo MapX® GIS platform, OnePlan Access for FTTx allows CSPs to:

  • Load vector or raster project maps and relevant geographical data
  • Map customer demand such as customer site locations and service areas
  • Lay out access network nodes and links in their actual physical locations
  • Visualize geo-marketing results and network roll-out over city maps
